A 2020 FAO report estimated that 9.1m tonnes (10%) of global wild caught seafood is returned to the sea unwanted, with an estimated 258,000t in the UK alone (33%). It is likely this number has reduced over time, but it demonstrates the potential scale of the opportunity.
